Born in Kinshasa, Kiala Nzavotunga grew up to be renowned guitarist that was in the backing band of the Joseph Kabasele, aka 'Le Grand Kalle' in Africa Jazz. Eventually Kiala got tired of Mobutu’s dictatorship and ran away to Nigeria. While in Nigeria he pursued Fela for help.

People can easily name off artists such as Dadju, Naza, Ya Levis, and Innoss’B but to name Congolese women artists in the current generation would be harder for most people.
